Meditation Chair Review Part 1 – Meditation Benches
This is going to be a series of posts that will review the wide range of meditation chairs, meditation benches and meditation cushions available. First we will look at the simple, inexpensive meditation benches that will help you remain comfortable while still sitting on the floor.
There are several different ways that these meditation chairs help support the body. Some support the back, some the legs and hips, some keep your back from over-arching, and some allow meditation positions other than sitting cross legged.
A small meditation bench is a very simple, inexpensive way to make your meditation session more comfortable. If you find sitting cross-legged uncomfortable, then this is a great alternative because you can sit in the “seiza” position with your legs tucked under the bench. This also keeps your spine straight and well aligned.
Small meditation benches come in a variety of designs, and the cost depends on what they are made of and the features they have.
The cheapest options are these very basic benches made of poplar, the cost around $34-40 (click on image for exact pricing or to order)
If you don’t mind spending a little more and want something in a different wood finish, there are also walnut and oak benches available. They cost around $55-$60 (click on image for exact pricing or to order)
Then there are designs that have rounded legs, which allows for more adjustability in position and angle.
These benches also have folding legs, which make them easier to store or slip into a backpack or bag. This is wonderful if you want to meditate comfortably outdoors or away from home. They cost from $59 to $100 (click on image to order).
You can also get cushions for these designs for around $25, to increase your comfort.
Next we’ll look at the larger meditation bench or meditation stools which is designed to accommodate a cross-legged meditation pose.
The sitting platform is angled to ensure your spine stays straight and comfortable. This stool has a completely adjustable angle so you can find your perfect position and be totally comfortable and aligned throughout your meditation.
In the next post, we’ll look at the range of different meditation cushions and floor meditation chairs that are available. I hope this has been helpful for you!
